The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Mittens Waves The White Flag

http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/08/romney-to-obama-please-stop-attacking-my-business-taxes.php?ref=fpa

Americans don't like losers.  They don't like wimps.  They don't like whiners.  Maybe on reality TV, but even the most moronic American voter realizes there is a difference between American Idol and Decision 2012.

Romney whining about the fact that Obama's attacks on his taxes and record at Bain are hurting his campaign is just pathetic.

Look, Mitt, Newt lit you up with this in March and then was called on the carpet by the party establishment. The party establishment knew that this line of attack was going to kill you and didn't want it to be made from both sides of the aisle.  How could you have not seen this coming?  This was as predictable as the monster coming back alive in a cheap horror movie.  Everyone and his dog - presuming it wasn't strapped to the top of the car - knew that Obama was going to hit you on this.

Whining about it makes you look pathetic.

Was the so-called Soptic Ad a sucker punch?  Yes.  So was the ad from a Romney Super PAC saying that Obama was going to pay people not to work.  Politics ain't beanbag.

But you don't whine about it.

And it should only get worse for Romney, who is not a good retail politician or a captivating speaker and whose base is bordering on revolt because a spokeswoman noted that if Joe Soptic had lived in Massachusetts (or ANYWHERE ELSE AFTER 2014) his wife would have had medical insurance.

Romney is likely in freefall and can only be grateful that the Olympics will cover some of his flailing.

But if he picks Paul Ryan as his Veep, that's a sure sign that he's desperate and worried about his base.  And it will also make the Ryan "Budget" the centerpiece of the issues that Obama has been raising -  the attacks on Bain and Romney's taxes - resonate with the Granny Starving Randian Wet Dream that has its living, walking manifestation in Paul Ryan.

I'm counting the days until Obama re-runs the Daisy ad.

UPDATE: Holy crap!  He already DID run the Daisy ad.  The Soptic ad has never aired.  Kind of like the Daisy ad.
