Josh Marshall notes an article that breaks down the broad dysfunction of consultant class in Democratic politics. The focus of the article is the perverse incentives of political consulting that siphons off money that should be going to win elections that instead goes to a sort of circular economy of ad buys and consultant fees.
He notes that it certainly seems that Democrats are winning the small donor wars, whereas the GOP relies on billionaires, Dark Money and Super PACs. I can say for my own experience that I really wanted to give money this year, but the literally non-stop barrage of emails and texts has made me balk at making a donation that will open my up to more emails and texts.
There is a clear reform agenda for Democrats in attacking the ability of billionaires to buy elections. There also needs to be an effort to clean up their own house and change the dynamics of how they run campaigns.
