The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Early Voting

"Friends don't let friends extrapolate from early voting." This basically means that leaning into the relative composition of the electorate based on people who vote early is a fool's game. Democrats do tend to vote early; Republicans tend to vote on election day.

Still, one thing Democrats and democrats might hope for is that this year, Republicans, even MAGA Republicans, just stay home. That might be happening, emphasis on the might.

Hopefully, a lot of typical GOP voters are sitting on the fence about whether to reward their party with their vote, even when they nominate terrible candidates. If one more scandal or price shock occurs between now and election day, those late GOP voters might also stay home. Maybe some new Epstein revelation or yet another corruption scandal.

Let's hope.
