The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Hunh, How About That?

Remember way back when?  Why it must have been all the way back yesterday.

I noted that having a ranch called Niggerhead, with a great big sign calling it as such, might actually work to Perry's advantage with the GOP.  Well, Herman Cain - he of the mighty showing in the Florida Candidate Auction Straw Poll - said that, you know, having a ranch with that name was, kind of, you know, insensitive and wrong-ish.

Well, guess what?  Turns out the GOP turned on its latest Non-Romney for being all PC and aiding and abetting the "lamestream media" and playing the race card.

So, to recap:  Perry had a ranch for years with a racist name.  Once he became Governor of the second largest state, he decided to paint over the name, presumably out of political calculus rather than conviction.

And this will hurt Herman Cain, the only non-white GOP presidential contender.

You can't make this stuff up.
