I've been struggling to understand what the finance guys are freaking out over when it comes to the bond market (because I don't speak Finance). As usual, Krugman explains it best. Basically - if I understand it correctly - is that we are seeing a "dash for cash" among institutional investors, as they struggle to get major cash reserves on hand, because they anticipate a financial crisis. When you think about it, it makes sense. America's greatest financial asset is it service industries, especially in finance. If the rest of the country severs itself from the US, that liquidity from foreign sources dries up and blows away home.
What's more, the basic balance of trade is that American dollars go to Canada for lumber and petroleum and then return as investments. Force the trade in goods to balance and the investment return plummets.
Meanwhile, Musk is calling Peter Navarro "Retarrdo" and Trump is escalating the tariffs. Trump is an idiot who has lost the "adults in the room" and we are headed for a 2008 collapse. It is also entirely preventable, while the Cult cheers it on.
