The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Somehow, we have a dog

I took Thing 1 and Thing 2 up for a Cub Scout overnight on the USS Salem, come back and before I know it, we have a new dog.

Her name is Heffley, after The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books that Things 1 and 2 are reading voraciously.

We put down our Lab, Garp, right before school started and now we have Heffley, a black lab/something mix.  She's very skittish, but very affectionate.  She also has a nice soft Lab mouth, which is nice, because Thing 2 gets skittish himself around nippy dogs.

The missus is top dog trainer.  I hope she brings her A-game.
