Blog Credo

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

This Drives Me Crazy

Yahoo tapped Chris Cillizza of the Notorious WaPo to fluff Mitch Daniels.

Cillizza says that Daniels is "one of the few people in either party who seems willing to take on the nation's ever-growing debt problem."

Really?

What was Mitch Daniels' job BEFORE governor of Indiana?  Director of the OMB under George Bush.  In other words, Mitch Daniels presided over the CREATION of our budget problems.

As governor, he briefly proposed raising taxes to help close the state's budget problems but that was six years ago, pre-Tea Party.  He has not made that mistake since.

He has also decertified public employees unions, albeit in a less confrontational manner than Walker and Kasich.  He recently signed a bill that would defund Planned Parenthood in Indiana.  So basically, he holds many of the same odious positions as most Republicans, but he is less of an asshat about it.

But the tell for me will be when he says we have to raise taxes to balance the budget.  If he says that, I will believe that he really is "serious" about balancing the budget.  If he doesn't, he's a joke.  If he does, he'll never get the GOP nomination.
