The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Who Marries These Guys

If you're going to build a Stepford Wife, can't she at least look human?

The NY Times ran a fluff piece on Newt Gingrich (How is THAT possible?) that talked about his newest wife being integral to his run.

I guess I see that.  She's 22 years younger than he is or something.  Imagine all that pale, sweaty Gingrich pressing and nuzzling close to you, and your only consolation must be: "If I put up with him long enough, maybe I can live in the White House."

Cindy McCain also had that bleached out, eyes of the damned look to her, too.  But you could tell she was a former beauty queen.

And truth, be told, I loved the off-the-cuff comments from their youngest daughter, Meghan.  She seemed moderately interesting, so I'll credit Cindy McCain for raising an interesting kid.  (Before you accuse me of sexism, how often do you think a US Senator hangs around the house one of his six houses?)

But still, why is that the GOP seem to use THIS as their template for spouses?

Kissinger said "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac."  I guess Gingrich needs more power.  Maybe that explains the three wives.  He keeps trying to upgrade as he climbs the ambition ladder.

Or maybe the GOP is so reflexive anti-Obama, that the fact he has a beautiful wife who manages to be both cool and warm, makes them run in the opposite direction.

For what it's worth.  Almost no one looks good when you really watch them dance.  Almost no one.
