The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Three Strikes And You're Out

OK, bad news comes in threes, right?

So after the first two miserable pieces, we have the piece de resistance!

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/15/us/politics/democrats-in-congress-balking-at-obamas-jobs-bill.html?hp

Blue Dogs and weak kneed Democrats are split on the Jobs bill.  They want to see "deficit reduction" before any money is spent on jobs.

Right, because the American people want that, too?  Actually, no, by a sizable majority, Americans want Congress to act on jobs.

The worst part is that these idiots are shitting their own bed.  The Obama jobs bill is almost certain NOT to pass.  By trampling on the message of that, they are empowering the GOP obstructionists to get away with it.

This jobs bill is a clear political winner - it wins on politics and on policy.  But the Heath Schulers and Mary Landrieus and Kay Hagans are just timid little kittens.

Because I'm sure if they express reservations on this bill, the GOP will go easy on them when they are up for re-election.

Morons.

I'm used to Democrats screwing up the politics.  But to screw up the politics AND the policy is impressive even for them.  One party can't do politics, one party can't do governance.

I have tried to be even keeled, but today has me thinking that maybe America really is doomed.
