The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

This Is Great

As we spiral into an actual debate about contraception - I mean WTF - let's take a moment to watch this woman speak from her heart.

For most of the GOP, the contraception debate isn't about conviction.  Maybe for Santorum and the forced birthers it is, but for Mitch McConnell and Mitt Romney, this is just a cheap line of attack because wedge issues worked in the past and maybe they will work again.

Personally, I think this contraception debate will blow up in the Republican party's face.  We're talking about the Pill, not an abortion.  I hope the GOP's focus on women's uteri while the economy recovers leads them to electoral disaster in November.

And I hope that women like Rep. Walsh of Walla Walla take over the burning hulk of the GOP.

Because God help us if the current crop of God-bothering yahoos ever gets control again.
